Hi, I’m Stephen Garrett, LCSW.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) specializing in counseling and therapy for individuals in the Carson City and Reno, Nevada area.
My Lived Experience
I enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 19, beginning a career that would span nearly two decades. During my service, I had the opportunity to travel extensively, fly in an F-16, complete multiple domestic and overseas assignments, and earn numerous awards and recognitions. These experiences shaped my sense of responsibility, adaptability, and commitment to service.
Like many people who spend years in high-demand environments, I eventually encountered personal challenges that prompted me to pause, reflect, and seek support. This period of transition deepened my understanding of the importance of mental health care, connection, and compassionate support. With the encouragement of my family and the guidance of a skilled therapist, I was able to regain clarity and direction.
Through that experience, I discovered a desire to support others navigating difficult chapters in their lives. Today, my work as a therapist is informed by both professional training and lived understanding of change, resilience, and growth. I strive to offer a grounded, respectful, and supportive space where clients can feel heard, understood, and empowered in their own process.
Training and Education
I obtained my master’s degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. I’ve been practicing as an independent clinician since 2022. I completed my clinical training at Willow Springs Hospital, an inpatient facility dedicated to adolescents, and the Veteran’s Health Administration (VA).
